Cabin Leader Orientation - General Guidelines

- Participate 100% in all camp activities, meetings, meals and events. Those staff who bring their family with them must ensure their children are cared for -- not running around without supervision and not a distraction to the staff parent and/or the assembly.
- Serve the campers - looking for opportunities to minister the love of Christ.
- Be available for ministry times during and after meetings, when in the cabins and during free time.
- Be at all meals, at designated times 10 minutes early to get seated before the campers arrive.
- Be in all cabin leader meetings unless an emergency requires you to be somewhere else.
- Never be alone with a camper in a non-public location. (cabin, meeting room, office, forested area, etc.)
- Never enter into any kind of romantic relationship with a cabin leader, camper, another staff member or intern.
- Never use any kind of humiliation or physical discipline with a camper.
- Sick campers should report to the Medic. No ill camper should be left alone in the cabin.
- It will be the responsibility of each camper and/or cabin to cover the costs of broken and/or damaged equipment or facilities.
- Parents are responsible for damages not covered by their camper and/or the cabin. Minimum charge is $50.
- Parking area is off limits to campers while camp is in session.
- Campers may not leave the grounds of Old Oak Ranch without first checking out with the Camp Director.
- Only the lighted areas around and near the Snack Bar, Duncan Lodge, Dining hall, Victory Circle and pool are "in limits" after dark. All other areas are "off limits" at night.
- Permission to use musical instruments must be obtained in advance from the Camp Worship Leader.
- Immediately refer any information regarding campers dealing with abusive situations, to the Deans and/or the Camp Director.
- No Cabin Leader or staff member is allowed in the Snack Bar unless you are working a window under the direction of the OOR Concessions Supervisor.
- On the last day of camp, you and your campers should remain on the grounds until final cleanup is finished and you are dismissed by the Camp Director.
- Objects not a part of an activity or event are not to be thrown. i.e. rocks, etc.
- All medications are to be turned in to the Medic at registration or at the first meal.
- Only the Medic shall dispense medications.
- Keep camp clean and litter free. Model this for the campers at all times.
- No radios, TVs or other electronic equipment.
- Please, NO SMOKING while at Old Oak Ranch.
- There are to be NO FIRES, except during approved times in the fire circle when supervised by camp staff.
- Campers are required to attend all meetings, classes, activities and meals.
- No Cabin Leader or staff member is to eat in the OOR "staff" dining room. Only the worship team is authorized to eat in the staff room due to schedule constraints in keeping with this role and assignment.
- The infirmary is OFF LIMITS to all campers not requiring treatment by the medic.
- Every camper and volunteer must wear provided wristband at all times during camp programs.
- Model to campers what they are to be doing.
- Follow and help enforce all rules and guidelines, which are given during camp.
Failure to uphold these guidelines is grounds for the immediate dismissal of a Staff Member or Cabin Leader from camp, and may open the individual to legal liability.
